You Want it Where?
It sounds exhilarating. Your client has decided to hold their annual Sales Leadership Conference in a far off, exotic location. Immediately, visions of South Sea islands with waving palms and warm tradewind breezes come to mind, complete with images you've only seen in books or films. It sounds wonderful.....

Then, you call the venue. The sales rep there tries to explain, in badly broken English, that your proposed shipping/customs date falls right during the middle of his country's highest holiday season. "Nobody works during those days", he proclaims flatly. Romantic visions are further dashed when he tells you that the local audiovisual vendor has video projectors, but both of them are booked during the time of your show. Your female staff can't direct local labor, as that would violate generations-old customs. The local government will levy a 30% tax on the retail value of anything you bring in. Oh yes, they don't have chairs for your attendees....

Sensing the worst, you discuss travelling to the venue for a site survey and a meeting with local vendors. "You may not want to do that now," your contact cautions. "The rebels have taken the hills above the airport...."

It doesn't take long to know that if you're going to bring your client's overseas event off successfully, you'll need the help of people who have been there. In short, you need friends you can rely upon. Alford Media Services has had extensive experience all around the world, in virtually every make and manner of event setting. Within the past year, we've supported our clients' shows in such places as Paris, Tokyo, St. Thomas, Buenos Aires, Taipei, Dubai, Mexico City, as well as on cruise ships in the Mediterranean and Caribbean. Our folks are also experienced with the United Kingdom, The People's Republic of China, Germany, Egypt, the Philippines, the Dominican Republic, and even our closest neighbor to the north, Canada.

Any time you cross borders to work, a number of issues and decisions must be faced. Are there local
resources to meet your needs? What do they cost? Is it smarter to bring in your own vendors, who may need to ship in tons of materials? What does that cost? Is the country you're visiting a "carnet" country, or do you have to start from square one with their Customs and taxation officers? And what does it cost? How well prepared is the host country/host venue for last minute "pop-ups?" And most importantly, what will those cost?  None of these questions is ever easy or quick to answer regarding overseas events, but Alford Media, with our network of experienced shippers, freight forwarders, and foreign based vendor contacts, is prepared to provide you with the best advice, people, and equipment available on any shore. Our commitment is to act in your best interest both locally, and internationally. Simply put, we want to be your global link.
